TRISTAN DARE
This piece is forged from the Muonionalusta meteorite, which is an octahedrite meteorite iron that was preserved in the arctic permafrost for four ice ages, and inherently preserved the meteorite over the course of one million years since it fell to Earth.
The meteorite was refined and forged into a custom Damascus steel with carbon layers, to form a fully functional and hardened ice pick. I then crafted the handle from 10,000 yr-old Bog Oak, recovered from an ancient oxygen-free peat bog that preserved the wood by acidic anaerobic conditions. And lastly, embedded into the handle is blue resin fissures that create a frozen effect that shines translucent in just the right lighting.
In 1906, three children found an unusual rock near the Sweden–Finland border. To their unknown, it had traveled through space for four and a half billion years before striking Earth a million years earlier.
That rock is the Muonionalusta meteorite. Its crystalline iron-nickel structure is the heart of this piece. A pattern Earth itself could never reproduce.
